Hi, my name is Erik. I'm a pastor, advocate, story-sharer, community-builder, resource-connector, and justice-worker. Won't you join me?
Growing up in a small town on the outskirts of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I was immersed in a family-centered faith from as far back as I can remember. I attended a country church with fundamentalist evangelical zeal, and left that tradition in my teens to seek the gospel of peace and love that resonated with my passionate, care-giving soul, and which I found in my bible.
My faith journey was filled with incredible challenges during my college years when I came out as a gay man and dedicated my life-energy to advocating for LGBTQ livelihood. I was offered spiritual refuge in the United Church of Christ and have flourished in that radical welcome ever since.
I am a proud alum of Chicago Theological Seminary where I enjoyed a transformative and rigorous theological education. I also found my passion for missional ministry during my time there. I was ordained in May 2014 to non-traditional ministry as the Volunteer Manager of an agency serving people experiencing homelessness in Milwaukee, WI. I currently serve as pastor at Calvary Memorial United Church of Christ in Wauwatosa, WI.
Together with my husband, Ryan, our tuxedo cat--Cody, and our 4 backyard chickens, I live by an ethic of hospitality, extending to others the life-changing, radical welcome that has been a gift to me time and again.
