Open & Affirming Consultant
In 1985, General Synod called on all UCC settings to adopt covenants of “openness and affirmation” welcoming lesbian, gay, and bisexual people. In response to this, the UCC Coalition launched the formal "Open & Affirming" program in 1987.
Congregations and other ministry settings seeking Open & Affirming certification are required to engage in an extended period of study, prayer, reflection and dialogue before the congregation or governing body votes on an ONA covenant. This ensures that the community moves forward together and lives into their covenant with authenticity.
As an ONA Consultant, I offer my services as a guide to give your process structure and help you create and implement a process that works best for your congregation or ministry setting. I can help be a guide as you gather your committee, survey members of your setting, plan your process, prepare for a vote, and along the way I can offer resources, expertise, and prayerful support.
